HAPPY BIRTHDAY, UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS!!!!

On Nov 10, 1775, in a place called Tun Tavern, the Continental Marines were born and now are about to celebrate their 234th
birthday.

Marines have served as the vanguard of every American war since its founding. The Corps has always been ready to answer
the call and we have a long and distinguished history of which to be proud.

From fighting the pirates of the Barbary Coast in the Tripolitan city of Derna; to the Battle of Chapultepec capturing the castle
called the “Halls of Montezuma”; to the Boxer Rebellion in China; to a place just outside Paris called Belleau Wood and being
given the nickname “Devil Dog”; to the islands of the Pacific Theater – Guadalcanal, New Georgia, Bougainville, Gilbert Islands,
New Britain, Peleliu, Philippines, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa; to the frozen land of Korea in places called Inchon, Seoul, Chosin,
Taejon; Pusan, Yalu River, Bloody Ridge, and Heartbreak Ridge; then to the jungles of Viet Nam; the deserts of Iraq; and now
the mountainous terrain of Afghanistan.

The Corps has fought, just like our hymn says, “in every clime and place we could take a gun”.

Yes, the Corps has answered the call of our great nation. Remember the heritage of the Corps – but also remember YOUR
contribution to the Corps and our great nation. THANK YOU for what you have done.

Come and join your fellow MARINES as we celebrate our birthday on Nov 5 during the monthly meeting of the Detachment.

Semper Fi….
